Is it possible to mix concrete with ice?

Do you really use ice to make concrete? This ice concrete is commonly used for constructions in very hot countries and for constructions with a large area and considerable height, for example, piles, pile caps (with a large height) and thick slabs etc. (trasfer plates). In addition, if the grade of the concrete does not come or the target strength after 30 days of placing the concrete is very high (>40N/m), ice concrete is used.

In general, the substance called concrete is formed by adding cement, sand, black stone and water. The reaction between cement and water is the main factor for the strength of concrete. This reaction is known as curing or curing process. Some time passes and some heat is released. If the strength of the concrete is to reach the targeted level or to reach the concrete grade, the main requirements are that this curing process takes place over a certain period of time and under relevant conditions. This process preferably takes place at a temperature between 50° F- - 70° F. This process preferably takes place at a temperature between 50° F- - 70° F.

Of these two factors, I will talk about it because the first point is related to the use of ice concrete. The curing process should be done for a certain period of time. Allowing it to happen means that sufficient amount of water particles must be continuously supplied to all the cement particles contained within that time. For this to happen, the ratio of cement and water contained in the concrete mixture must be at a certain value. Think about this, if the water in the concrete mixture evaporates a lot due to high temperature, the ratio of cement and water in the mixture will change. Then there will be enough water particles for the amount of cement particles. A certain amount will be lost in the mixture. Then the curing process will be interrupted. This mixture fails to get the required strength. Likewise, the surface of the concrete may have cracks and cement powder may remain like dust. These cracks occur because the concrete shrinks with the evaporation of water. Because there is no water to react, the dust on the surface is caused by the remaining cement particles. To avoid these problems, hot countries add ice when preparing the concrete mix. Then, because the temperature of the concrete is low, the evaporation of water is reduced and more water is added to the concrete over a longer period of time. Then the curing process takes place without interruption.

There are two methods of reducing the temperature of the concrete mixture. One is the application of chilled water. The other is the use of ice cubes or cubes. It is said that the use of ice cubes or cubes is slightly more effective than the use of cold water. Between the place where the concrete is used and the mixing plant. If the distance is very high, it is more appropriate to use ice. But before use, you have to make sure that the ice is completely melted, because if the ice cubes fall, air chambers may form in the concrete.

I think you will get some knowledge about what ice concrete is. We will look at the uses and advantages and disadvantages of this method in the future.
