The mighty load Sri Dhedimunda

From Mawanella town in Kegalle district, about 1.5 kilometers towards Kandy, turn at the Higula junction and travel about 7 kilometers, you can see a big temple. From the gloriously shining Bodhisattva, from the King Chaitanya with historical value and an ancient Buddha temple. This temple is most famous because of the great temple built for Lord Sri Dhedimunda. It is very common to see a large number of people come here from all over to this place of worship, which is rich in miracles, and pray for the things they thought and desired. That's enough. Please research a little bit about the hard-nosed God who works in this place and takes care of Sri Lanka.

According to the Theravada Buddhist order, the Buddha preached to Lord Upulvan, that is, Lord Vishnu, in the bowls of his Pirivan Manchaka, that his dharma would last for a long time in Lakdiva and to protect it.Lord Vishnu assigned this heavy duty to Lord Dhedimunda, who was in his divine council. So, the God who is bound to protect Sri Lanka by taking a vow from Lord Vishnu is called Dhedimunda. Now you know who is Lord Dhedimunda. Next we will see how he was born and how he got his name.

Although he was later called by the name of Dhedimunda, it is mentioned in the Patha book that his early name was Dunumantha. He is known as Vaikuntha Bhadrava by the Yaksha tribes and is considered to have reigned in Malos Island or Maldives.King Vesamuni, who is also the grandson of King Vesamuni ordered him to protect the Bodhisattva when Gautama Bosatana was cultivating virya to become a Buddha. When the Dasabimbara Mara people came to fight with the Bodhisattva, all the gods fled from the place, only Dunumanta remained motionless with a bow in his hand. It is also said that he was there with a cane in his hand.It is said that Bosatano, who defeated the mares, gave these sixteen-year-old princes the honorific title of Dhedimunda, which means tough person.

The above verses, which are believed to have been written by the monks who lived in the uplands during the British period, are written in an old Puskola book. These verses indicate that the only one who did not move without fear from the giants who came to fight with the Buddha was Dhedimunda, a descendant of the Yaksha tribe, and a Vishu during the time of Gautama Buddha.

There are several local idioms about him. They are composed of different beliefs than this. Because of the intense devotion to God in people's hearts, those local legends have been enhanced in various ways. We will cover that information in another article.
